Congratulations to Phil Harrison AM

Scouts Australia would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Phil Harrison, Immediate Past Chief Commissioner Scouts Australia, on being appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the King’s Birthday Honours earlier this month. This prestigious recognition reflects Phil’s exceptional dedication, leadership, and significant contributions to the Scouting movement in Australia and beyond.

Phil has been a cornerstone of Scouts Australia, known for his extensive involvement and leadership, including his six-year role as Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia. Over the past 40 years, Phil has dedicated himself to various roles, from local groups, state, national, and international contingents, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the Scouting Movement.

Phil’s journey in Scouting began as a Cub Scout in 1978. He advanced through the ranks, becoming a Scout, Venturer Scout, and Rover Scout in the Scouts Australia (NSW) Branch. His passion for youth development is evident not only in his professional career as a principal of a secondary school but also through his continuous contributions to Scouting.

Reflecting on his experience, Phil shares, “The youth of today constantly inspire me as they work through tough challenges in our changing society. My involvement with Scouting is richly rewarded by supporting young people to come together, develop their personal potential, and participate in their communities.”

Scouting offers individuals the opportunity to develop skills in various areas while fostering lifelong friendships and connections with Scouts around the world. As Phil added, “Scouting is not only rewarding for individual development but also a great chance to make lifelong friends and connect Scouts around the world.”
