Strategy for Scouting

Help shape the evolution of our youth program

Scouts Australia is working to make delivering the program easier and more impactful. Our 2023-2026 Strategic Plan equips us to give our people the tools, clarity and confidence to deliver life-changing, adventurous and safe experiences for young people.

We’re seeking expressions of interest from Venturer Scouts, Rover Scouts and adult volunteers who are enthusiastic about the program and can help enhance its design and delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse team working together to shape a program that young people love leading.

We’re forming working groups to deliver each of the below strategic priorities over the next 2.5 years. If you have skills, experience or an interest in any of these areas, we encourage you to apply.

  1. Set an improvement and investment roadmap, and agreed funding pathways, for the digital tools that Units use to manage the youth program
  2. Establish user-friendly benchmarking resources to empower Units and supporters to assess and improve the quality of program delivery
  3. Shift to and embed a continuous improvement approach for the youth program nationally, that is inclusive, responsive and informed by lived member experience
  4. Identify a limited set of professionally-delivered Scouting models (e.g. schools-based, out of school hours care, holiday programs, etc.) and develop common tools, header agreements, and curricula to significantly scale up consistent delivery
  5. Make more adventurous youth program happen, more accessibly, through coordinated upskilling, and outcomes-based training and risk frameworks

The continuous improvement of our program offering ensures that Scouts can better contribute to the education of young people in achieving their full potential. The implementation of these priorities will involve reviewing what currently exists and working to improve the supports, systems, policies and resources that underpin each area.

Working group members will:

  • Work collaboratively and constructively with others (both within the team and across our organisation)
  • Diligently contribute to the working group and its projects, including participating in regular online meetings (likely monthly) and undertaking tasks between meetings
  • Be supported by and report regularly to the National Youth Program Team
  • Engage positively and proactively with stakeholders

If you enjoy seeing things happen, achieving success and making a positive impact to a wide audience, then volunteering in one of these working groups is for you! It’s also a fantastic opportunity to develop your project management and teamwork skills as part of a friendly and fun national team.

Expressions of interest will close on September 7, 2024 and we will contact applicants after this date. If you have any questions or would like further information, please email Nick Molnar, Deputy National Commissioner Youth Program, at nick.molnar@scouts.com.au.
