Scouts Australia is proud to introduce Dougal Mayor and Shaylah McClymont who have been appointed as Deputy Chief Commissioners. Dougal and Shaylah will officially commence for a 3-year term at the National AGM in November and will support the Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia (CCoA), in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our organization, as well as empowering young people in decision-making.
Dougal Mayor is the incoming Deputy Chief Commissioner of Australia. Dougal’s experience in his former role of National Commissioner Adult Training and Development, and previous roles at Group, Region and Branch level over more than 35 years combine to continue supporting Scouting in Australia.
Known to his friends as “Doogs”, Dougal commenced his involvement with Scouting as a Cub Scout in 1977, then as a Scout, and a Rover Scout. His first adult appointment was as an Assistant Scout Leader in Brighton, Scouts Victoria in 1988. Dougal has also held the role of Region Commissioner and Assistant Chief Commissioner Adult Training and Development in Scouts Victoria Branch and a Group Leader in Victoria and Queensland. He has been a member of the National Training Team for 15 years.
Professionally, Dougal is the Executive Manager with Scouts WA having held similar roles in Victoria and Queensland.
Shaylah’s involvement with the Scouting community began in 2012, when she participated in her first Gang Show. After participating in Canberra Gang Show as a Girl Guide for 7 years, Shaylah joined Scouts in the Rover Scout Section.
In her time in the Scouting movement, Shaylah has been Vice Chair and Chair of the ACT Branch Rover Council, a member of the ACT Branch Executive Committee, the Assistant Chief Commissioner Program for the ACT and led an International Scouting Contingent to Norway.
Shaylah remains an active participant in the Youth Program as the Unit Leader of Old Parliament House Rover Scout Unit and as a recent recipient of the Baden Powell Scout Award. Most recently, Shaylah has been National Rover Council Chair, representing the Rover Section on the National and International level.
Outside of Scouting, Shaylah has a strong history in youth advocacy through her roles on the ACT Youth Advisory Council and with the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition. Professionally, Shaylah works for the ACT Government, specialising in domestic and family violence policy and programs.
