During 2023 and 2024, the Lord Baden-Powell Society distributed $245,500.00 and financially supported Australian Scouts attending events such as OneCamp (WA), WSJ2023, KISC100, Governor-General’s Camp 2024, as well as this year’s Australian Jamboree (AJ2025) in Maryborough, Queensland. Angus, a Scout from South Australia shared his Australian Jamboree 2025 experience with us below.
Throughout my AJ2025 experience I was met with highs and lows that made the 10-day event unforgettable. I remember the kind friends I made along the way and the fond memories I made. I stood with friends while the green machine, our mess hall, got flooded. Even though we got flooded we bounced back with a funny prank on the fun police. We put a wheel lock on one of the buggies and hold the key as ransom until they paid us one soft drink per Scout in our unit! It was hot. This, and the Australia Zoo experience, had to be my favourite part of the Jamboree because of how organised the experience was and how clean the zoo was kept (odd I know).
I also loved the mall and main arena. The Boost shop was a life saver many times. Each Contingent had really cool spaces such as mini golf and mario kart in an actual car.
An activity that truly pushed me out of my comfort zone was the ‘Your Sights’ activity in Maryborough. After getting into Maryborough and being released to start doing our chosen activities, I led my Patrol around town to each of the planned activities, including a steam train experience.
I loved the sense of community created by the Jamboree. If you branch out and talk to other people, as I did, it was very rewarding. Swapping badges was a great way to meet new people and have fun. My goal was to get badges for all States and Territories of Australia, the International Contingent badges, and the oldest and coolest badge I could. I achieved this.
I couldn’t have done this without the support of the Lord Baden-Powell Society and its financial support, so thank you!
Kind regards,
Angus, Scout – South Australia
