Jay is a proud Palawa man from lutruwita (Tasmania), with family connections to the communities along the rupila mangina (Pipers River) and Tin Kettle Island.
He commenced his Scouting journey on Darug land, where a visit from the local Rover Scouts to his primary school introduced him to the opportunities within the movement. He went on to join his local Group as a Cub Scout and progressed through each of the Scouting sections. Jay is now based on Gadigal land, where he holds several leadership positions. He currently serves as the Scouts NSW State Commissioner Future Leaders, is an appointed Scouts NSW Guide, a member of the Scouts NSW Insurance Committee, and contributes to the National Training Team as an Assistant Leader Trainer.
Professionally, Jay is employed at the University of Sydney, where he supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in their academic pursuits. He is also engaged in the redevelopment of curriculum to ensure the stronger integration of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.
In his capacity as the inaugural National Adviser, Reconciliation for Scouts Australia, Jay is committed to advancing the organisation’s reconciliation journey. Working in partnership with Reconciliation Australia, he is supporting the development and implementation of a nationwide Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) across all branches. Through this role, he seeks to demonstrate Scouts Australia’s commitment to reconciliation and to driving meaningful, lasting change.
Jay’s appointment commenced from October 2025 for a period of three years.
