Asia-Pacific Region Scouting

Congratulations to Nikketah Cuneo Elected to the Asia-Pacific Region Scout Committee – A Historic Milestone for Scouting.

Scouts Australia is thrilled to announce that Nikketah Cuneo has been elected as a member of the prestigious Asia-Pacific Region Scout Committee. This significant achievement took place at the 28th Asia-Pacific Region Scout Conference in Taiwan, where Nikketah’s election marked a historic milestone for both her personal journey and the broader Scouting movement.

A Pioneer for Women in Scouting

Nikketah’s election is a groundbreaking moment in the history of the Asia-Pacific Region Scout Committee. She becomes only the 4th female ever to hold this position since the committee’s founding in 1962. This achievement highlights her exceptional leadership and dedication to the Scouting movement, while also shining a spotlight on the increasing representation of women in key roles within global Scouting organizations.

In fact, Scouts Australia has had 12 members elected to the Asia-Pacific Region Scout Committee since its inception in 1962. Of those, two have been female. The first was Kirsty M. Brown AM, who served from 1998 to 2004, becoming both the first female from Australia and the first female ever elected to the Asia-Pacific Region Scout Committee. Nikketah follows in Kirsty’s footsteps, making her the 4th female ever elected to the Committee.

Her appointment to the Committee will see her serve for a six-year term, during which she will work alongside fellow committee members to shape the future of Scouting across the Asia-Pacific region. This includes driving initiatives that strengthen the program, foster youth leadership, and promote diversity and inclusion within the movement.

A Proven Leader with a Vision for the Future

Nikketah’s election is a testament to the hard work, passion, and dedication she has consistently shown throughout her Scouting journey. With years of experience in Scouting leadership, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of Scouts in the Asia-Pacific region.

In her new role, Nikketah has outlined several key priorities for the region, all aimed at empowering Scouts and strengthening the movement:

1. Growth – Expanding Scouting in the region by ensuring that youth programs are both engaging and accessible, with a focus on attracting and retaining members through strong leadership.

2. Good Governance – Continue to further the best practices for efficient processes and practices with transparency and accountability, ensuring that the Regional Scout Committee operates with strong governance and effective processes.

3. Youth Engagement – Supporting young people to be engaged and valued in decision-making at all levels, ensuring that their perspectives are valued and they are actively involved in shaping the future of Scouting.
