A tiny town close to Australia’s most iconic landmark has become home to the country’s newest Scout Group. With a population of just 853 people according to the 2021 Census, Yulara officially celebrated the launch of Scouting in November 2025.
The event was marked by the presence of Australia’s Chief Commissioner, Brendan Watson OAM, and the Adrian Williams from Scouts NT Chief Commissioner, both of whom were in attendance to officially open the new Group and invest two new Joey Scouts, several Scouts, and a Leader into the movement.
“It’s an exciting moment for Scouting, not just in Australia, but across the Northern Territory,” said Watson. The new Group, driven by local residents, invested around a dozen young people, paving the way for future connections both nationally and internationally, as Scout families visiting the region will be able to engage with the Group.
Looking ahead, the focus will be on growing membership, Leadership, and training, with support from Darwin Groups already planned. Scouts NT, Chief Commissioner Adrian also emphasised that the Yulara Group will have its own identity, distinct from any other Group.
With its unique location, Yulara offers Scouts from around the world the chance to engage with the community while visiting. “Scouting in the Territory is growing, and that’s something we’re all excited about,” said Brendan.
We look forward to following the Yulara Scout Group’s journey and watching it thrive in the years ahead.
