#OutsideIn25

2025 was an action-packed year of trying new things and building new skills in the outdoors. Thanks for being part of the adventure!

In 2025, we set Units across Australia a challenge to get outside for new adventures – big and small. From Joey Scouts to Rover Scouts, our young people explored new environments, enjoyed countless fun activities, and progressed their Outdoor Adventure Skills.

#OutsideIn25 inspired Units to take on the outdoors with the bucket list challenge, celebrated youth achievements by introducing the Adventurous Journey badge, generated new resources to support outdoor activity planning, and showcased adventures from across the country in the video competition.

The good news is that the outdoor fun continues in 2026! Because Nature & the Outdoors is embedded in the Scout Method, it’s at the heart of everything we do, year after year. These experiences encourage young people’s natural sense of curiosity, promote physical and mental wellbeing, and create a lasting connection with the environment.

Video Challenge Results

We received a number of great videos celebrating the fun, friendship, and fresh air of Scout adventures in Term 4! Thanks to every Unit or Patrol that submitted a video capturing their awesome activities.

We’re excited to announce that the winning entries were:

  • Core Skills category – 5th Mildura Cub Unit (VIC) for a mashup of their bushwalking adventures in Central Australia and Sunraysia
  • Adventurous Journey category1st Balmain Venturer Unit (NSW) for a snapshot of their Adventurous Journey in High Country Victoria
  • Water Activities category – Mt Mugga Scouts & Venturers (ACT) for the highlights reel of their OAS Paddling weekend at Lake Burrinjuck

A Youth-led Adventure

With the energy and ideas of young people at the helm, #OutsideIn25 was truly youth-led and adult-supported. The campaign was spearheaded by an enthusiastic team of creative and adventurous Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts – including Oliver Murfin (WA), Amelia Moran (NSW), Madi Latter (SA), Ryan Harrison (SA), Lily Canalese (Queensland), and Nick Molnar (National Team).

Locally, young people contribute to leading their Unit’s adventures in ways that reflect their age, interests, and abilities – with adult volunteers there to provide support every step of the journey. It was energising to see even more youth members step up and take the lead in their outdoor challenges in 2025.

What’s Next?

2025’s adventures laid the foundation for us to create more opportunities for young people to participate, assist, and lead in outdoor activities. As part of Key Move 1 of Scouts Australia’s strategic plan, we’re working to improve the accessibility of adventurous program by reviewing our practices and policies.

In 2026, we will strengthen the clarity and consistency of adventure delivery for local Units, including updating the National Adventurous Activities Framework. This important work will simplify requirements to ensure a safe, fun, and adventurous program is achievable for all.
