Matt’s Scouting journey began with a simple invitation , a pamphlet in his letterbox promoting a local Scout Group’s “Come and Try” day. From those early days in the Scout section, he progressed through each section to Rover Scouts, achieving the Peak Award at every stage along the way.
Over time, Matt’s commitment to Scouting has grown well beyond his original regional Queensland roots. He has served in a wide range of roles, including District Leader, Assistant Leader Trainer, and as a representative on the National Rover Council. He currently a Rover Scout and Scout Assistant Branch Commissioner (Adventurous Activities) within Queensland Branch.
Beyond formal Leadership roles, Matt has a strong passion for outdoor education and training, with particular expertise in paddling. He is especially committed to supporting members to build skills and confidence on flat water and in coastal environments, creating meaningful and safe learning experiences.
In this new role as Deputy Principal of SAIT, Matt hopes to further promote the wide range of opportunities available within Scouting to gain formal qualifications, both as youth members and as Leaders delivering the program.
Matt’s appointment commenced from January 2026 for a period of three years.
