National Child Protection Week 2026

This year’s theme, “Every Conversation Matters, Shifting Conversation to Action,” reminds us that meaningful change begins when we talk openly about child safety and, most importantly, turn those conversations into action.

At Scouts Australia, creating safe environments is at the heart of what we do. Every conversation with a young person is an opportunity to listen, build trust, and help them feel valued, respected and safe.

As part of our commitment to child safety, we encourage all members and volunteers to keep their mandatory training up to date and to be familiar with the Scouts Australia Child Protection Policy, Code of Conduct and Youth Safety Commitment Statement. These resources provide important guidance on our responsibilities and the standards of behaviour expected across Scouting.

The Scouts Australia Child Protection Policy, developed in conjunction with Child Wise, is regularly reviewed. In addition, each Scouts Australia State or Territory Branch has formal policies addressing child protection and inappropriate conduct or behaviour.

Our Code of Conduct helps ensure that everyone involved in Scouting understands the behaviours and responsibilities that contribute to a safe and respectful environment. The Safeguarding YOUth I-Statements reinforces our commitment to putting the safety, wellbeing, participation and voice of young people at the centre of what we do.

This National Child Protection Week, let’s move from conversation to action. Listen, speak up, stay informed and take action, because every conversation matters, and every one of us has a role to play in keeping young people safe.
