Earlier in 2026, the Scouts Tasmania Branch approached Scouts Australia for support in navigating the insurance market after experiencing challenges securing appropriate coverage while managing increasing costs.

As a smaller Branch, Scouts Tasmania recognised the value of accessing specialist expertise to assess the complex range of insurance options available. Through a collaborative project, the Scouts Australia National Support Team worked alongside Branch leadership and staff to clarify risk priorities, explore available options and support informed decision-making.

Importantly, Scouts Tasmania retained ownership of all key decisions throughout the process. The National Support Team brought strategic facilitation, market insight and practical guidance to the project, working alongside the Branch as it navigated the market and identified an outcome suited to its needs.

Reflecting on the successful closeout of the project, Scouts Tasmania Chief Commissioner Phil Harper highlighted the importance of the collaboration:

“I would have been jumping up and down about this, even now, had National not been the catalyst and the facilitator to get this done.”

The project demonstrates how Scouts Australia can work alongside Branches to navigate complex challenges, build local capability and strengthen decision-making, while keeping ownership firmly with the Branch.

This work forms part of a broader series of initiatives under the Strategic Plan. With two other Branch projects currently underway, the National Support Team continues to strengthen collaboration across the organisation and work alongside Branches to address challenges where targeted expertise can make a meaningful difference.
