Chair, National Executive Committee

Dennis Green AM

Mr Dennis Green AM was elected Chair of the National Executive Committee of Scouts Australia, in June 2015.

Dennis’s most recent role was as Director General Air Force Cadets, where he was responsible for administering approximately 1500 volunteer staff and 7500 cadets across Australia. Here he was able to put into practice his passion for developing adult leaders and young people.

Much of his Air Force career also involved him in leadership training through the Air Force Commanders Course and in the Defence Science Technology Organisation.

Dennis is a qualified company director. He has chaired the West Australia Regional Council of the Air Training Corps, and as Director General of Air Force Cadets he chaired the Australian Air Force Cadets Executive Council. His board appointments include responsibility for Air Force Strategy and Planning, responsibility for change management as Director General Air Force Improvement, and responsibility for the Australian Air Force Cadets on the Air Force Safety Board.

Dennis holds two Masters degrees and in 2007 was recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia for exceptional leadership and service as Commandant of the Australian Defence Warfare Centre and as Director General of Air Force Strategy and Planning.

His long and distinguished career in the Air Force started while at school with the Air Force Cadets, receiving an Air Force scholarship and completing his pilot’s licence while in year 12. After serving in many leadership roles he was promoted to Air Commodore in 2000 with a posting as Air Attaché in Washington USA. He continues to serve in the Air Force Reserve.

In his role as Chair, Dennis works closely with the Chief Commissioner and the National Executive Team to enhance Scouting.

“I consider it vitally important that Scouts Australia provide the opportunities for all young Australians to develop skills, experience and resilience in a safe environment that helps them to be proud of their achievements” he says.

“We want Scouts to be valued because of their strong community spirit and their respect for others.”

Dennis is married to Denise and they have two adult sons and an adult daughter. His interests include flying, gardening, and developing young people.
