JOTA/JOTI 2017

A Success

Connecting Scouts from around the world via the airwaves and Internet

Over 8,000 Members and Supporters from every Branch of Scouts Australia and The Girl Guides of Australia participated in the 60th Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) and 21st Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI), held in October 2017.

The Australian event was opened by The Chief Scout of Australia, His Excellency Governor General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and The Chief Girl Guide, Her Excellency Lady Cosgrove, and commemorated 60 years of connecting and encouraging Scouts and Girl Guides to share their stories and experiences globally with other Youth.

Using mostly Amateur radio phone, Echolink, IRC on Scoutlink and Skype, international exchanges were established with 16 countries from the 157 JOTA-JOTI stations around Australia.

An Australian designed JOTA-JOTI 2017 badge proved very popular, with a total of 13,315 badges purchased by Scouts and Girl Guide Members to commemorate and celebrate these special 60th Jota and 21st Joti anniversaries.

Overall, JOTA-JOTI 2017 was a great success and the National JOTA-JOTI Team would like to thank everyone who participated to make this event a success: Their Excellencies, The Chief Scout of Australia and The Chief Girl Guide of Australia; the Amateur Radio Operators who assisted with the running of stations; The Wireless Institute of Australia broadcast team and relay stations who supported the opening address by Their Excellencies; all participating Youth Members, and all Leaders and Helpers who provided Adult supported assistance in running the stations.
