Scouts in the Queen’s Baton Relay

Scouts all over Australia will be participating in the Queen’s Baton Relay, transporting the baton from Canberra to the Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Relay is a tradition celebrating the diversity of the members of the Commonwealth, and the baton carries a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that calls the Commonwealth’s athletes to come together in peaceful and friendly competition. This Baton Relay commenced in March 2017, and reached Australia on Christmas Day 2017. The official website for the Relay states

“Batonbearers are everyday people who inspire others to be great. Nominated by their peers for achievements and contributions to their community, a Batonbearer has the honour of carrying the Queen’s Baton and representing their family, friends and community with pride.”

While each Scout who participates has a different story, it’s easy to see why so many members have been selected to participate.
