Putting Sustainability in Focus

More Than Our Environmental Impact

As part of our commitment to creating a better world, Scout Australia has appointed an Assistant National Commissioner – Sustainability. It’s an important step to ensuring our environmental, economic and social impact aligns with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and community expectations.

Scout Australia has appointed Patrick McCormick as the Assistant National Commissioner – Sustainability. In the newly created position, Patrick has the strategic and operational responsibility to embed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into the youth program, and ensure, as an organisation, we support the success of the SDGs through our practices.

Until recently the National Adviser – Environment, Patrick’s broadened portfolio will impact all levels of Scouting. From ensuring our national practices are sustainable, to ensuring adult training and resources are adequately developed to ensure our initiatives have maximum impact.The environment parts of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement’s Better World Framework is aligned to this position, helping ensure more people access the development opportunities provided by this framework. Patrick will be collaborating with relevant National and Branch volunteers to ensure our success in this area. With diversity and inclusion (D&I) part of the sustainability portfolio, we will be recruiting another volunteer to join Patrick’s team specifically to support D&I soon.
