Tamika Takes on AV2018

Thanks to the support of the Lord Baden-Powell Society, Tamika from WA was able to experience the best of the East Coast of Australia on her summer holiday for AV2018.

During the January school holidays, with the help of the Lord Baden-Powell Society, I attended the WA pre-tour and AV2018.

I enjoyed every minute of this three week experience, therefore making it hard to choose my favourite moment! However, if I had to choose the best moment, I choose attending the Sydney Vs. Melbourne Baseball Game on the WA pre-tour. I choose this moment because before attending this game, I had little interest in the sport. Since attending the game however, I have become a bigger fan of the sport, as well as a fan of the Melbourne Aces. Throughout the rest of the pre-tour and Venture, I was watching the other games that Melbourne was playing. When I got back home, I even went to Perth to watch them play against the Perth team, and I plan on going to Melbourne this year to watch the Melbourne team play at their home stadium. That one game has definitely made an impact on me for sure.

As for the Venture, I enjoyed flinging wristbands into the other Contingent areas the most. Why? This is because while it may seem like a simple and not so fun thing, it allowed me to meet and have fun with people from different States.

I also enjoyed being able to colour the beard of my Contingent Leader Bushy, and the hair of my Venturer Scout Commissioner Dragon in the colour throw event. Unfortunately, I do not think I will be a hairdresser anytime soon. I also enjoyed being able to meet with other people, as I most likely would not have met them if it wasn’t for the Venture.

I have gained many friends, skills, and new interests from going to pre-tour and Venture, and I thank the Lord Baden-Powell Society grant assistance for helping me get there.
