International Day of Peace

Inspire and Encourage Peace this September 21

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The United Nations has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.

Celebrate International Day of Peace this year with an event that encourages and inspires a better world. Join with Scouts from around the world in making this day a commitment day for year-round peace actions. You’re actions will help spread harmony, collaboration and positivity further than you can imagine.

On this day, how will you celebrate being a global citizen creating positive change? Maybe try some of these ideas!

  • Peace Run or Rally – a popular event nowadays, a Peace Run or Rally could be organised with a theme leading to peace awareness and actions.
  • Trees for Peace – activities that complement the Sustainable Development Goals and encourage young people to be environmentally friendly.
  • Youth Speech for Peace – a local community gathering that engages young people to share how they could contribute to a better world and share success stories from their Messengers of Peace experiences or projects.
  • Peace Pledge – a commitment campaign where Scouts are encouraged to be the prime movers of peace. This may include taking selfies with peace statements (e.g. “Peace Starts with Me”) or other similar placards that are posted on social media.
  • Good turn a day – an encouragement to do good turns not for a day but throughout the year. The goal is to set a world record of the largest number of young people doing good work for others.
  • Community Service –finding opportunities to help others, such as short or long-term community service or projects.
  • One-day Peace Gathering – get up to speed with training to explore the importance and use of dialogue and mediation as a way of promoting peace.
