During times of crisis, Scouts are there to support our communities that we live and Scout in. To assist in the drought currently gripping many parts of Australia, a drought relief blanket badge is now available.
We are proud to announce that we have developed a badge to raise funds for farmers impacted by drought. Rover Scout and Cub Leader Kathryn Robinson from Taringa-Milton-Toowong group in Brisbane, QLD approached Scouts Australia with the concept, and, in conjunction with Scout Shop, we are proud to offer a new collectors badge with $3 from every badge going towards drought relief.
“Not being able to donate a lot of money personally, I looked for other ways I could make a meaningful difference with what I did have, which was time” said Kathryn. “I tested the idea on social media and found that there was a lot of support from others in the Scouting community.”
Kathryn suggested that the money raised goes through the charity Buy a Bale. Depending on the amount of money raised, this charity will allow Scouts Australia to specify whether money goes towards food for stock, transportation costs, water or hampers for farming families in need. The money can be allocated to certain parts of Australia or Australia-wide.
