Advancing Gender Equality

Join the #HeForShe Movement And Make Your Commitment

Scouting is proud to have given generations of young people equal opportunities to grow and develop their full potential through empowering and enriching experiences regardless of their background. The Movement is open to everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from.
World Scouting and UN Women signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance gender equality in support of UN Women’s #HeForShe initiative at the 41st World Scout Conference last year.

Both organisations have been working together on how we can increase gender equality and empowerment, and to inspire young people around the world to take action. This initiative resonates with the Scout Movement’s Vision 2023 and brings us a step closer to our aim to reflect the societies in which we exist and to welcome all individuals without distinction.

The #HeForShe Action Kit is linked to WOSM’s strategic priorities of ‘diversity and inclusion’ and ‘communications and partnerships’. Recognising the need to support National Scout Organisations in offering Scouts learning opportunities on the Sustainable Development Goals – and inspire us to work for gender equality (SDG 5) – the World Bureau have released the #HeForShe Action Kit.

The Action Kit encourages scouts to think about gender issues and understand when and how they can act; it is available at scout.org/heforshe. Please download it and explore how you can use it to inspire action in your Group or District.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to the Diversity & Inclusion lead in your Branch, or via our National Adviser Diversity & Inclusion Clare Hanley at D&I@scouts.com.au.
