Scaling New Heights

National Vertical School

Scale to new heights with your climbing skills, or deepen your knowledge in caving with our upcoming National Vertical School. Set near the climbing community loved Mount Arapiles during Easter 2019, this event will be perfect to expand your skill set.

Applications are opening soon for the National Vertical School, being run by Victorian Branch over Easter 2019. This intensive training event is open to Venturers aged 15+, Rovers, and Leaders. Participants new to rock activities will have the opportunity to choose between abseiling, caving, and top-rope climbing, while those with prior experience can develop skills in lead (trad) climbing or complex vertical rescue.

The School will introduce newer participants to a broad range of technical skills, for example:

  • different abseiling techniques
  • safe belaying, and
  • rigging anchors and belays on natural surfaces.

The lead climbing and vertical rescue streams will focus on technical aspects of those activities. There are also a small number of places available for trainee instructors.
