National Scuba and Snorkelling School

Head underwater with the upcoming National School in Scuba Diving and Snorkelling! If you’re interested, email the Course Leader to see if positions are still available.

With the introduction of Scuba and Snorkelling in the new youth program, the ACT Branch is hosting a National School – Scuba & Snorkelling, which will take place based out of Townsville in July 2019 for skills development and recognition.

For those interested in working towards some of the VET qualifications that are needed for appointment as a Guide, or just looking to improve their snorkelling and scuba skills, this school is for you. Participants will also be involved in some citizen science (community service) by undertaking some of the GBR Marine Park Authorities “Eye-on-the-Reef” initiative.

Dates:

6 to 14 July 2019

Prerequisites:
  • Financial member of Scouting
  • Medically fit to dive
  • Venturer, Leader or Rover
Cost:

$1700 (ex Townsville). If required, equipment can be hired for $210.

More information:
  • Email John Pring at scuba@scoutsact.com.au.
  • Diving will be on the Reef, but will also include the Yongala.
  • There will be 3 instructors (diving) on board.
  • Accommodation has been organised at a local Scout Hall in Townsville on the night prior to and post the event (no flying within 24 hours of diving).
  • As places will be limited (approx. 20), Branch AA Commissioners will be approving the participants from their Branch, and to ensure that there is an opportunity for all branches to participate there is an initial allocation of places per branch (2-3). Places not taken up by the beginning of February will be opened up.
