Congratulations to all the Scouts who participated in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 3 March. Clean Up Australia Day has been held every year since 1990 when 300,000 volunteers participated. This year thousands of Scouts from 355 Groups volunteered to help clean up Australia.
In Sale, Victoria one Scout Group combined their clean up activities with their biennial “Catch a Carp Day”. The Scouts and local community fished for Carp in Lake Gutheridge. These feral fish interfere with native plants and animals and reduce water quality. All the fish caught are used to make fertilizer for farms and gardens. Four of the Scouts organised the day as the project for their World Scout Environment Badge. They were presented with their badges on the day.
If your Group cancelled Clean Up Australia Day activities on 3rd March due to high temperatures or fires, it is not too late to register for a Clean Up Day at here. Order your badges from The Scout Shop. Clean Up Australia Day activities are also eligible for Messengers of Peace recognition and badges – register at www.scout.org
