Developing Active Citizens

Leadership Starts With YOU

You+Lead Personal Development Program is an experience that takes Scouts on a three part journey to understanding leadership and others. Applications are now open for this program.

Scouts Australia’s Leadership Development Program, You + Lead, is a three-part journey aimed at delivering an outstanding platform for Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts to develop themselves through learning about their own self, and then learning about how to lead others. The program follows World Scouting’s Youth Involvement Policy and aims to create more opportunities for our youth members to develop leadership, 21st-century learning and community engagement skills.

Part 1: YOU

The YOU course is stage one in the program where Scouts, Venturers and Rovers will really focus on self-discovery. The course will cover the following:

  • Gratitude: Giving thanks to yourself and developing a thankful mind-set
  • Communication: Learning how to provide clear instructions for others, and listening actively
  • Reframing: the impact that negative self-talk can have on a person’s ability to motivate themselves to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
  • Fear management: Overcoming fear, and rising up to the challenge
  • Happiness: Finding joy in each moment
  • Personalities: learning the masks that we wear in different environments, and understanding our truth

We want to be able to reach as many young people as possible and encourage you to express your interest in attending. Expressions of interest can be submitted here.

Part 2: LEAD

LEAD is a week-long journey, building skills in teamwork, leadership, understanding others and understanding how they can help “Create a Better World”. It is a dynamic week of fun, laughter, tears and new learning as all participants embark on a massive personal journey. For all it will be a week to remember for a long time.

LEAD is only open to those who have completed YOU. Applications for LEAD will be made available after the completion of the YOU course. There is limited numbers on the LEAD Course, and applications are based on your ability to demonstrate your commitment to personal development.

Part 3: Alumni

Once you have completed the LEAD course you become a member of the program’s Alumni. Alumni members will be able to apply and help out on future courses and may be selected based on merit for opportunities across Scouting.
