Action and Adventure for Joey Scouts

What happens when a global pandemic limits face-to-face interaction? The Scouting community, globally, turns to Scouting at home.

Here at Scouts Australia, we have compiled a range of programs and resources to support Scouting as we work through the different phases of community and social distancing, and self-isolation.

Whilst we might all be in social isolation, we still need to make sure we are active and moving. This resource has been compiled by members of Scouting in Western Australia, for use by Joey Scouts. Encourage your Joey Scouts to work their way through these, and a Special Interest Area in Adventure and Sport could be theirs!

We suggest having a discussion with your Joey Scouts so that they can personalise the challenges further, and set their own goals for the number of each exercise they challenge themselves to do.

Keep active, keep moving, work on gross motor skills and an Adventure and Sport Special Interest Area all while Scouting at home!

It’s important to remember that we are trying to maintain activity and minimise our reliance on screens, even whilst Scouting at home, so the more we can get up and moving, the better!

In need of an adventure? Start by looking at the possible adventures that your Joey Scouts could have whilst maintaining their exercise under lockdown conditions – is there a park, reserve, beach or large paddocks nearby that they could explore? What about remembering previous holidays and adventures, or even starting to plan the next?

This resource contributed by Pialba Joey Scouts, Queensland, challenges Joey Scouts to remember their past adventures, get active and plan a Special Interest Area in Adventure and Sport. Maybe they won’t be able to finish it off while in ‘lockdown’, but maybe they will!
