And they’re off! Antarctica 2023 Explorers Depart

ANTARCTICA 2023 Berkner Island to Ross Ice Shelf – A 2,023km unsupported journey for the future of our planet.

We’re proud community partners with The Last Great First team’s ANTARCTICA 2023 Berkner Island to Ross Ice Shelf expedition. This epic 75-day expedition is many things – a history-making, incredible undertaking that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible, an initiative that supports the community and an opportunity to collect data for climate scientists.

Climate Advocates, Doctors, Scouts and Polar explorers, Gareth Andrews and Richard Stephenson, have set off to ski 2023km, pulling their 160kg sleds with all their supplies across Antarctica.

They will endeavour to collect crucial climate data as they make their way slowly across the continent.

If successful, approximately 75 days later they would have achieved the longest ever unsupported ski crossing of Antarctica (2023km) and the first unsupported ski crossing of Antarctica by an Australian or a New Zealander whilst providing scientists with a unique dataset to help to address climate change, a journey for the future of our planet.

ANTARCTICA 2023 remains true to the expedition’s key missions: to push the boundaries of what’s humanly possible, create a new world record by undertaking the longest ever unsupported ski crossing of Antarctica, and to collect significant and world-changing climate data along the way.

Drs. Gareth and Richard participated in the recent JOTA-JOTI live show and we are in the process of setting up the celebration of World Antarctica Day highlighting the partnership of Scouts and The Last Great First Pty Ltd expedition ANTARCTICA2023.
