Parliamentary Friends of Scouting

The first Parliamentary Friendship Group event hosted by Scouts Australia took place on 28 February at Parliament House, Canberra.

The event celebrated 50 years of girls and women in our youth program.  We reflected on our journey toward gender equality to date, and highlighted further actions that Scouts Australia will take to improve gender equality in Scouting.

The event was a success, with 19 MPs and Senators “scarfed up” by youth members from all sections.

This gathering was the first of its kind for Scouts Australia, with a second event planned for the end of this year.  These events provide a great opportunity for us to showcase the fantastic non-formal educational program that we provide to youth members across Australia.

Scout Groups are invited to engage with their local member or Senator by inviting them along to week nights, special events or presentations.  These events provide a great opportunity for Members and Senators to connect with their local community, and  provides an opportunity for them to engage with and support young people in their community.

For our youth members, these visits provide an excellent opportunity to learn about active citizenship and civic engagement, learning about their community, and contributing to their SPICES I-Statements.

The second Parliamentary Friendship event will be held later in the year.  We’re looking forward to many more successful gatherings!
