This National Child Protection Week September 1 – 7, Scouts Australia reinforces our commitment to provide a safe environment which enables self-development of young people as well as the creation of positive and healthy interpersonal relationships between young people, between young people and adults and among adults.
This year, the National Child Protection Week message that “Every child in every community needs a fair go”, will be complemented with the theme “Every conversation matters”.
Scouts Australia is committed to building a safe environment which enables the self-development of young people as well as the creation of positive and healthy interpersonal relationships among all our members, young people and adults.
Last September, Scouts Australia introduced the new Safeguarding YOUth I-Statements, empowering Scouts and Leaders to have conversations to assert their rights and express their feelings through the “I” perspective. These statements encourage transparent dialogue on matters of safety, consent, and digital behaviour, aiming to foster a positive culture of safety, and a respectful and inclusive Scouting environment.
Conversations are powerful tools to keep children and young people safe. Conversations can help us understand issues, craft solutions, value community knowledge and build the minds and social connections of young people.

Scouts Australia pledges to prioritise the safety and well-being of our youth, ensuring a protective and caring environment for all members.
