Finding innovative ways to improve our environment and make a social impact can be challenging, but the new Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts Challenge Cards aim to make this easier and more inspiring!
Developed by the National Rover Council in 2024, these cards are packed with fresh ideas to help youth shape meaningful projects through the Special Interest Areas (SIA). Designed by youth, for youth, the cards serve as a powerful tool to inspire programming that addresses critical global issues—starting with the environment.
These challenge cards are grounded in the framework of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which serve as a global policy to foster change in communities and protect the environment. By aligning activities with the SDGs, the cards encourage Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts to think globally but act locally, connecting their efforts to the broader issues of biodiversity loss, climate change, and other pressing societal challenges.
The first set of cards focuses on the environment—an issue that has always been important to Scouts. With growing concerns about the biodiversity and climate crises, these challenge cards provide a roadmap for youth to explore and address these problems head-on. They help young people understand and engage with environmental issues, laying the foundation for impactful, informed action.
Whether tackling a specific challenge or raising awareness, these cards encourage Scouts to take steps, big or small, towards a better future. While some activities may not seem to have an immediate impact, they contribute to building a deeper understanding of the complex issues at play—an important step in making long-term change.
Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts, lets dive into the Challenge Cards and get ready to make a difference. The future is in your hands!
