On the 21 October 2024, the 1st Kings Langley Cub Scouts from New South Wales were excited to welcome the amazing Paralympic gold medallist Tim Hodge back to our Scout Hall. I say ‘back’ because when Tim was younger, he used to be a Cub Scout in our very own pack!
The Cub Scouts and Leaders listened in awe as Tim spoke about his journey as an athlete and a Paralympian. He brought in many of the awards and medals he had achieved in his sporting career, including the 2 gold and 1 silver medal that he won at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. A lucky few of us were even allowed to hold his precious gold medal.
Our Cubs had so many questions for Tim about his sporting career and we also loved hearing about the many adventures he had as a Cub Scout at our very own hall. Tim didn’t mention this when he spoke to us, but later when we were looking at the plaques on the hall walls, we noticed that he was Joey Scout of the Year in 2008 and Cub Scout of the year in 2011!
Tim spoke to us about achieving our goals, he said “It is great to have big goals, but to achieve them you need little goals that lead to them. These goals will be as simple as getting up earlier tomorrow or doing a little extra homework. it can be anything that will take you one small step closer to your big goal.”
This was so inspiring to me because it made me realise there are many smaller goals I can work on little by little in the journey towards my big goal in Cubs, which is the Grey Wolf Award.
Thankyou Tim for sharing your journey with us! 1, 2, 3 WOLF!
