Technology Enablement Working Group – Survey and Update

Many thanks to all who took the time to participate in our recent technology survey, targeting the top three technical challenges you face. It was great to receive feedback from every level of the movement: youth, parents, adult leaders, commissioners, and Branch staff. The Technology Enablement Working Group (TEWG) is currently working through these results, seeking to identify how results tie into each of the key move areas of the National Strategic Plan (NSP) 2024-2027. So far, the results are already greatly assisting us in the development of the technical strategic plan and its roadmap.

The results show that, yes, Scouts | Terrain is a key area highlighted. Rest assured that the TEWG has shared the Scouts | Terrain results with the Youth Program team and we will establish a joint arrangement to work with them on their Scouts | Terrain planning. It is also apparent that you are very concerned about the many IT systems you are required to access and use. Many of which perform similar tasks but do not share common information, often requiring you to enter the same information multiple times across systems.

Obviously, we can’t change everything overnight. Yet having this information directly from you, we can develop a national technical strategic plan and roadmap because we can see in one place where we want to go and by when. We are committed to delivering solutions and by bringing your technology challenges into a central group, we can get a national perspective and identify priorities. The TEWG will be presenting to the NEC in February, including the survey results and the technical strategic plan and roadmap. We will look to provide a further update shortly after that meeting.

Our intention is that by openly communicating what is happening, you will all see that progress is being made, that change is occurring, and that we are working hard to resolve some of those ongoing technical challenges that we all face.

The roadmap will be created in consultation across Branches, to ensure a much more collaborative delivery of IT systems and improving the administration side for you. Especially for those of who you volunteer in the youth sections.

Less frustrated keyboard clicks, and more fun being ticked!
