Scouts Australia proudly congratulates David Jones AM on being awarded the prestigious Asia-Pacific Regional Award for Distinguished Service to International Scouting.
Mr. David Wynne Jones AM FCA, Chair of the Lord Baden-Powell Society (LBPS), has been recognised for his exceptional dedication to Scouting. In December 2024, he received this distinguished award, achknowledging his outstanding contributions to Scouting in Australia and worldwide.
The Asia-Pacific Region (APR) of the World Organisation of Scout Movement established the Asia-Pacific Regional Awards to honour committed Leaders, volunteers and adults in Scouting. Each year, the Awards Committee careful reviews nominations to recognise outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions at National, Regional and Global levels.
David Jones began his Scouting journey in 1948 as a Wolf Cub and progressed through all sections, concluding as a Rover Scout. In 1960, he transitioned into an adult leadership role as an Assistant Group Leader, marking the beginning of over 65 years of dedicated volunteer service. Throughout the decades, he has held various leadership roles at district, regional, state, and National levels, significantly contributing to the growth and sustainability of Scouting in Australia.
His international Scouting contributions began in 1988 as Project Director for Scouts of Africa, where he played a key role in supporting regional and global initiatives. His strong commitment to solidarity and addressing social injustice has been inspirational, encouraging many Australian Scouts to consider the needs of their brother and sister Scouts facing challenges worldwide.
David has actively participated in seven World Scout Conferences and nine Asia-Pacific Region Conferences, as well as multiple international jamborees, regional summits, and world-level events, where he frequently volunteers as a leader or presenter in discussion groups.
In 2020, David Jones received the prestigious Bronze Wolf Award, the highest honour of World Scouting, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to World Scouting.

I’ve been working with David for approximately seven and a half years, and in that time I have learnt something from every phone conversation with David. As Chairman, he is always approachable and available to take my call.
Under his leadership and decision making, the Lord Baden-Powell Society has grown financially and can continue supporting young Scouts in need, which is why we are here today.

David Jones had held numerous leadership positions within Scouts Australia, the Asia-Pacific Region, and the World Organisation of Scout Movement, demonstrating his expertise in finance, fundraising, and resource management. He is always willing to share his expertise through his work as a specialty consultant and resource developer and has assisted in the creation of several regional publications focused on financial management and strategy monitoring.
For over six decades, David Jones – a qualified Chartered Accountant – has applied his professional skills in management and accountancy to support National Scout Organisations (NSOs) and the Asia-Pacific Region of the World Scout Movement.
