This month sees the end of the six year terms in National Adviser roles respectively for both Clare Hanley (Diversity and Inclusion) and Doug Wright (Creative and Performing Arts). Both Clare and Doug have made significant impacts in their roles over that time.
Clare has engaged with all the Diversity & Inclusion Branch delegates over her six (6) years in the role and helped form a coalition of Leaders who meet online regularly to share resources, support peer learning and undertake joint projects. Under Clare’s leadership this group has worked to strengthen national policies & procedures related to diversity and inclusion, including a suite of resources supporting reasonable adjustment, neurodiversity and championing the commencement of our Reconciliation Action Plan development process. Clare and the team have also worked hard to strengthen adult leaders’ awareness and understanding of various elements of diversity and inclusion and helped form partnerships with other nationally-focused organisations in these spaces.
Clare is continuing her involvement with Scouting as a Cub Scout Leader in her local Group, as well as a continued commitment to support the development and finalisation of Scouts Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan and the work she is undertaking as a member of the Strategic Plan Key Move 1 working group.
Doug has worked hard to share learnings from the various Scout shows across Australia with each other. As the National Adviser for Creative and Performing Arts, he has helped create a team of subject matter experts to expand these areas, contributing and designing resources to increase the creative elements of our program. Performing Arts is a key part of program, especially in the Special Interest Area and Doug’s work has been key in this area. In his time in the role Doug has also headed up NATPAC – the network of performing arts shows from across Australia, and working with shows in New Zealand as well. We thank Doug for his service in the National Adviser role.
The National Youth Program Team would like to thank both Clare and Doug for six years of exceptional work in their respective portfolios and for the support they have offered the program team in that time. We wish them both great success in their future roles, both within and outside Scouting.
A recruitment process for National Adviser roles will commence in the coming weeks.
