Looking for ways to support Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts to complete Special Interest Areas as a Unit, as a Patrol, or individually? The program team have released these resources to assist.
As Scouts progress through the age sections of the program, they are given increasing opportunities to drive their own activities and achievements. The Achievement Pathways serve not only to challenge individual young people, but to empower them to challenge themselves.
While youth leadership is part of Scouts from the beginning of the journey, younger youth members do require greater levels of adult support.
New resources are available from pr.scouts.com.au to enable more support for Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts when completing Special Interest Areas.
Special Interest Areas (SIAs) are one component of the Achievement Pathways, encouraging Scouts of any age to set goals, explore their interests, and try new challenges.
The resources explain that in the Joey Scout, Cub Scout and Scout sections, youth members can now undertake Special Interest Area projects individually, as a Project Patrol, or all together as a Unit. Keeping in mind their greater independence and the skills they’ve already built, Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts continue to complete Special Interest Areas individually, or collaboratively as a Project Patrol.
The resources have been designed by experts in these younger age sections to provide:
We’re also holding three webinars to help Leaders in any section develop their ability to support Special Interest Areas in their Unit. Join us online as members of the National Youth Program Team take you through the goal setting process and explain the new resources.
Watch out for dates and links over the coming weeks.
