Jay Reid

Jay began his Scouting journey as a Cub Scout at Delta Scout Group in north-west Victoria in 1995 and went on to earn his Queen’s Scout Award. He was a Rover Scout at Mallee Rover Scout Unit and a member of Sunraysia Gang Show for five seasons.

He returned to Scouting in 2015 as a Scout Leader with the Birralee Scout Group in the ACT. He now leads as Branch Commissioner for Youth Empowerment, where he supports young members to have their voices heard and to play a stronger role in local decision-making.

Jay is passionate about youth empowerment and youth Leadership. At AJ2025, he was part of the NatShack, where Scouts and Venturer Scouts explored the new Personal Development Course and contributed to shaping its implementation. More recently, he worked with the Scouts ACT Branch Scout and Venturer Scout Councils to organise a meeting with Satara Uthayakumaran, the Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations, giving youth members a rare opportunity to provide direct input into Australia’s work at the UN.

Outside of Scouting, Jay works in media policy in the public sector.

As National Coordinator of the NextGen Network, Jay is responsible for designing and delivering a new training pathway for young people aged (15–35). The program equips future Leaders with the skills and competencies needed to step into organisational leadership roles and drive positive change at local, Branch, National, and international levels.

Jay’s appointment commenced from August 2025 for a period of three years. Stay tuned for more information about how you can get involved in the NextGen Network.
