Earlier this year, a devastating earthquake struck central Myanmar, with tremors reaching into Thailand, injuring many and affecting millions of lives.
Embodying the spirit of “Tied in Friendship, United in Hope,” the Scouting community showed compassion and solidarity with those impacted by the disaster and came together to support our fellow Scouts in the affected regions. Through the purchase of a special blanket badge with every dollar from badge sales going to the WOSM appeal for disaster relief.
Leaders from 1st Frenchs Forest Scout Group in NSW added an energetic twist to fundraising by launching a Lap-a-Thon. Scouts ran or walked sponsored laps, cheered on by family and friends. This activity not only helped raise vital funds but also encouraged Scouts to reflect on helping others in times of hardship, while earning a blanket badge as a symbol of their contribution and growth along their Scouting journey.
A Cub Scout explained, “The money we collected can give people clean water, food, shelters, and new Scouting gear after the earthquake.”
Another Venturer Scout shared, “I felt proud to take part in the Lap-a-Thon. It’s not just about the fundraising – it’s about letting Scouts in Myanmar and Thailand know we’re standing with them after such a huge loss. We’re one big Scouting family.”
Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we are proud to share that $9,311.45 has been raised and sent to the World Scout Bureau (Asia-Pacific Scout Region) appeal.
A sincere thank-you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this effort. Your kindness is a shining example of the Scouting spirit in action.
