The Lord Baden-Powell Society has been supporting Australian youth members to attend and participate in major Scouting events, such as the Australian Jamboree, International Jamborees and the Australian and New Zealand Ventures and more.
In 2023, the Lord Baden-Powell Society provided $28,000 financial supports to Scouts at OneCamp that took place in West Australia. Tiegan, Scout from New South Wales shared her OneCamp experience with us.
My favourite thing about OneCamp was going to Dwellingup and going on the tree tops high ropes course. It was fun experiencing new things with new friends and making lots of new memories.
We were meant to walk only 7.5 km to the Baden-Powell campsite but ended up walking 22 because our Leader accidentally got us lost. We kept walking around in circles, trying to find the place to camp. Our Leader asked a car which way was Baden Powell campground, and they told us it was where we had just come from. Everyone was a bit annoyed, but it was still fun. We got to the campground and put our feet up and relaxed until dinner.
The next day we packed up camp, had breakfast and were on our way to Treetops Adventure Park. It took 8km to walk to Tree Tops and by the time we got there everyone was exhausted. At the end of the camp, I realised that it was such a fun journey and was worth getting lost, otherwise I wouldn’t have a funny story to tell.
The next day I went to Bounce Beach and it was awesome. I used to do backflips and front flips on the trampoline I have at home, but I don’t really do them anymore, so it was fun to try them again on the trampolines at Bounce. I found it cool how there was a Ninja Warrior course there as well as a climbing gym and zipline.
I improved my knot tying skills by practicing them repeatedly at different activities at OneCamp including the Heritage tent. One of the new skills I learned there too, was archery. I had never done archery before, and I learned how to hold the bow and how to shoot the arrow.
I also learned to play with a Diablo at the circus tent. I had never played with one before and was getting the hand of it quickly. I could do some cool tricks with the Diablo such as, trampoline, and tapping it like a drum which made it spin quickly. I have asked my Mum if I can get one to practice at home.
I benefitted so much by going to OneCamp such as making new friends that I still talk to via messenger, experiencing some new foods like Bush Donuts, getting to swap badges and tobogganing down a slide of ice to get my OAS Alpine stage 1 badge!
I will remember all the great memories I have made from OneCamp with my friends. I told people about the funny stories I experienced from it too, and it made me miss being there.
I have attached a few photos of my time at OneCamp. Thank you, Lord Baden-Powell Society, for the financial support to help me get there. I will never forget it!
