Scouts Australia sincerely thanks Rear Admiral the Honourable Kevin Scarce AC CSC RAN (Rtd), whose six year term as President of our National Council concluded in November 2025.
Kevin was born in Adelaide and joined Scouting as a Cub Scout in the Elizabeth area, where he grew up. He served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1968, retiring in 2004. His appointments included service on HMAS Sydney during the Vietnam War, postings in Washington and London, Commanding Officer of HMAS Cerberus and Flag appointments as Naval Training and Naval Support Commander.
He was the Chief Scout for Scouts South Australia from 2007 to 2014 and has continued his active contribution to Scouts South Australia as their patron.
Kevin was awarded: the Conspicuous Service Cross in 1994, and was appointed an Officer in the Military Division of the Order of Australia in 2004, the Knight of Grace in the Venerable Order of Saint John in 2007 and a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2008.
In November 2019 Kevin accepted the appointment as National President for Scouts Australia. His appointment came shortly after one of the biggest governance reforms in Scouts Australia history. During his time as our President, Kevin has guided us through a pandemic, chaired online and hybrid AGMs, and contributed to a range of government and external engagement initiatives, both formally and informally. As a passionate advocate of Scouting, he has assisted Scouts Australia in gaining audiences with government officials, whilst offering calm support, advice and contributions and was a regular observer at our National Executive Committee meetings.
Kevin retired from the role of National President at the November 2025 AGM following a dedicated six-year tenure. Scouts Australia extends our deepest gratitude for his support and service and his outstanding leadership as National President.
