Scouts Australia launches updated National Adventurous Activity Framework (NAAF)
A simpler and stronger future for Adventurous Activities
Scouts Australia is proud to announce the approval of the National Adventurous Activity Framework (NAAF) V12.1, which will supersede V11. This update marks a significant step forward in strengthening how Adventurous Activities are delivered to Scouts across the nation.
Built on the strong collaboration between our Youth Program and Adult Training & Development teams, the updated NAAF has been designed with a clear purpose: to make delivery of the youth program simpler, more consistent, and more impactful for volunteers and young people alike.
This update reflects a deliberate shift in approach, prioritising practical improvements that will immediately support volunteers to deliver high-quality, engaging programs with confidence.
What’s Changed?
NAAF V12.1 introduces several key updates aimed at reducing complexity while improving clarity and accessibility:
- A revised framework: The lead document has been refreshed to provide clearer guidance and improved usability for volunteers at all levels.
- Simplified skills and knowledge bundles: Updates to skills and knowledge requirements for Trained Participant, Assistant Guide and Guide roles make expectations easier to understand and apply.
- Streamlined appendices: Appendix 1 and Appendix 3 have been revised and simplified, ensuring information is easier to navigate and more relevant to current practice.
- Updated VET unit codes and new pursuits: New pursuits have been added in response to member feedback, and we have ensured VET unit codes reflect current packages.
- New Appendix 4 – External Organisation Recognition: A new mapping table will guide how we recognise relevant qualifications from external organisations, reducing duplication and supporting volunteers’ existing expertise.
- Greater flexibility in recognition and appointments: Members no longer need to hold Units of Competency prior to NAAF skills recognition and appointments. This will streamline pathways and remove unnecessary barriers for volunteers.
These changes reflect Scouts Australia’s ongoing commitment to supporting volunteers, enhancing the safety and quality of the delivery of adventurous experiences for young people.
