The Lord Baden-Powell Society

Lord Baden-Powell Society (LBPS) proudly sponsored a Cub Scout from Queensland to attend her much anticipated Cuboree experience.

Zoe is a very proud Cub Scout and was super delighted when she successfully received the much-needed funding support from the Lord Baden-Powell Society to help her attend the Cuboree – Shake It Up, Queensland in March 2026.

After her event, she decided to make a presentation on Scouts at her school, and this is what she had to say.

My favourite hobby is taking part in Scouts. I am a Cub Scout at my local Scout Group, and I really enjoy being part of it. Scouts was founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell in 1907 and was originally created for boys. Cub Scouts began in 1916, and girls first joined Scouting in Australia in the 1970s. This means Scouts has been around for over 100 years!

In Scouts, we learn many practical skills such as camping, fire making, knot tying, and orienteering. We also wear a uniform, which helps show equality. The uniform includes a special scarf and badges that show our achievements.

I would like to tell you more about Den nights. A Den is where Cub Scouts meet. At the start, we have an opening parade, which includes flag breaking, an Acknowledgement of Country, and a prayer. Then we do different activities. At the end, we have a closing parade, where we put away the flag and say, “Good hunting, Pack.”

My biggest achievement was going to Cuboree this year. I wore my uniform and took part in lots of exciting activities like abseiling, archery, axe throwing, a colour run, and canoeing. We also sang songs together around a campfire. One of my favourite songs was, “I Have a Mango,” which is a fun and silly song we learned at Cuboree.
