Northern Territory Motoscout Program Brings Together Scouts and Motor Sport
In the Northern Territory, the MotoScout program brought together cars and Scouting to upskill Indigenous young people with valuable life skills.
The MotoScout program brought together at-risk, Indigenous and disadvantaged youth aged 15 to 24 years with an engaging, automotive skills based program. Coupled with the Scouts Youth Program, this initiative provided life skills that increased their likelihood of obtaining and sustaining employment, while also aiming to decrease the likelihood of incarceration and recidivism. The program was delivered throughout the Northern Territory from 2017 and has since concluded.
The 16 week full time program covered general automotive subjects such as; environmental and sustainable requirements, work health and safety, electrical and mechanical systems, use and maintenance of tools and equipment and basic servicing operations. In addition, external providers delivered driver training, industry white card, first aid, financial literacy and cultural training.
