MotoScout Program Upskilling Young People in the Northern Territory

In the Northern Territory, the MotoScout program is helping to upskill indigenous young people with skills in automotive subjects.

Scouts NT in conjunction with the Motor Trades Association has delivered a series of MotoScout programs in the Northern Territory which has been funded by the Federal Government. As part of the 3rd program run in Alice Springs, Scouts Australia Institute of Training has undertaken the assessment of 8 young indigenous people who have graduated with a Certificate I in Automotive Vocational Preparation.

The 16 week full time program covered general automotive subjects such as; environmental and sustainable requirements, work health and safety, electrical and mechanical systems, use and maintenance of tools and equipment and basic servicing operations. In addition, external providers delivered driver training, industry white card, first aid, financial literacy and cultural training.

Congratulations to; Chloe D, Son-j P, Aiden K, Caitlin P, Taneika P, Perri J, Evan T and Tamara S for their graduation on 4 December.  Many thanks go to Pat O who delivered the automotive training, Bridget G who provided the counselling support and Debbie G who is the Scouts NT MotoScout Program Manager.
