Strategic Key Move Managers – Membership and Volunteering

Scouts Australia has a new strategic plan running for three years until November 2026. The sets out five “key moves” (our high-level priorities) and we are seeking people to lead the implementation of two of these key moves, working closely with the Chief Commissioner, the Chair of the NEC, and other key stakeholders.

Terms- Three years

Key Move Manager – Membership

Build the recruitment and retention machine to grow our movement. Scouting has a growth plan. We will ‘zero in’ on member experience to engage members for longer and grow the positive impact that Scouting has for them. We’ll take control of our public image to welcome new and more diverse Scouts and supporters.

Key Move Manager – Volunteering

Reshape a contemporary volunteer model that drives Scouting. Volunteering is the lifeblood of Scouting. We’ll make a major update to our unique volunteering model so that many more people can contribute in their own way to Scouting. We’ll make the change with the safety of young people at the centre.

Duties:

  • coordinate across the national team and the branches – working with commissioners, committee members, and professional staff to achieve the goals set out in the Scouts Australia strategic plan.
  • prepare an Operational Action Plan that breaks down the actions required to make the key move a success.
  • provide regularly update to the Chief Commissioner and the National Executive Committee on progress against the plan.
  • identify barriers to success, and engage constructively across the organisation in bringing these to the attention of key decision-makers.
  • support the chair of the Strategic Plan Implementation Subcommittee in their role overseeing all five Key Moves.
  • [for Key Move Manager – Membership] chair the national network of growth coordinators from each branch.
  • [for Key Move Manager – Volunteering] engage externally with other organisations (eg. Volunteering Australia) that are thinking about new models of volunteer participation.

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • the ability to navigate and work with stakeholders across Scouts Australia’s federated structure.
  • a good understanding of the strategic and operational environment of Scouting across Australia, particularly with regards to either:
    1. member recruitment and retention, or
    2. our model for managing volunteer
  • a pragmatic and outcomes-focused approach – a track record of getting things done in Scouts (or a similar organisation).

Reporting:

  • the Key Move Managers (Membership and Volunteering) will report to the Chief Commissioner of Australia.

We are seeking expressions of interest in these roles. If you would like to submit an expression of interest (ideally 1-2 pages outlining your background, skills, and experience as relevant to achieving our strategic key moves for membership or volunteering), please write to the National Executive Assistant (sarah.eldridge@scouts.com.au) by  22 April 2024, and make sure to specific which of the two roles you are applying for.
