Scouts WA – OneCamp experience
The Lord Baden-Powell Society generously provided $28,000 in funding to support young Scouts from all sections, enabling them to attend Scouts WA’s OneCamp Eclipse 2023.
Venturer Scout Gerald shared his invaluable experience with the Lord Baden-Powell Society below.
Dear Lord Baden-Powell Society,
I was one of the Venturer Scout who attended Scout WA – OneCamp Eclipse 2023 at the Swan Valley, Western Australia. I had a great time on the camp and I loved to see Scouting in a different context. Thank you and LBPS for all the assistance and help for this camp.
I really enjoyed the new concept of having all the sections together at a camp. I feel as if this is a great way to get Units to get to know each other and properly collaborate as a group. As someone who has never been to Perth, my favourite activity was the Amazing Race. I believe this activity was very well organised and I really appreciated the variety and options it provided. The day expeditions were also a great way to meet new people, especially for when returning to site as this genuinely worked well for me to get to know people in different scenarios. A lot of the adventurous activities which were provided, I have personally done a few times, so I really wanted to make the most of interacting and meeting people, especially coming from the other side of Australia. This meant I got to work a lot on social skills and I really appreciated that the simple activities like the Venturer Sanctuary, Market Day and Expeditions accommodated for this. Overall, I really enjoyed interacting and seeing Scouting across Australia and I will definitely remember how I could see the event being ‘Youth Led and Adult Supported’ extremely clearly as this inspired me as a youth member. Furthermore, I really appreciated how welcoming and warm the Leaders were in WA, making a more enjoyable experience for youth like me.
