How to Travel Internationally with Scouts Australia

There are many ways our members can travel with Scouts Australia. Below highlights the most common ones. For more information please head to the Scouts Australia website and download a copy of the International Travel Guide. In here you will find more details on what is on offer for our members who are after an international experience!

International Letter of Introduction

Any member of Scouts Australia travelling overseas and wanting to join with a local Scout Group or activity overseas must apply for an International Letter of Introduction through OLEMS. They will need to have their application approved by their Branch and the International Commissioner before travelling. We ask for at least 6 month’s notice so all the checks can be done.

Branch Friendship Tours

All Branch Friendship Tours must be registered with the National Office via OLEMS and be approved by the home branch and the International Commissioner. Ideally an application for a Branch Friendship Tour should be submitted at least 12 months before departure. For more information regarding planning a Branch Friendship Tour, please contact your Branch International Commissioner.

Event Team/ APR / WOSM Meetings

Any member of Scouts Australia who is travelling to an APR/WOSM meeting or any other meeting where they are conducting Scout business must register in OLEMS. The contact at the National Office is the Program Support Officer – International. Once you are registered, your trip will be added to the Scouts Australia travel register so you are covered by the Scouts Australia travel insurance policy for the duration of your trip. Additionally, advice regarding travelling and the overall safety of the host destination, will be sought from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Smartraveller website.

Contingents

Anyone wishing to join one of the overseas events registers in OLEMS. These events are advertised broadly to all our members through the  e-News, Branch Newsletters and other social media channels like Facebook.
