Chief Commissioner (Acting) Receives National Medal

The Chief Commissioner of Australia (Acting) has served the community in many capacities, and was recently awarded the National Medal for his involvement with the Queensland Rural Fire Service where he is still an active Rural Firefighter.

Phil is a volunteer firefighter with the Tinaroo Rural Fire Brigade in Queensland, having previously belonged to the Crows Nest Rural Fire Brigade.

Phil has been involved with the Rural Fire Service in Queensland since 1996, and became a Rural Firefighter in 2001.  He is called on to fight fires a few times a year, but also regularly assists in controlled hazard reduction burns.  In between these events he participates in regular practical fire training.

“I first joined the Rural Fire Brigade to support the local rural community I lived in” said Phil.   ‘It has also proven a great way to build positive relationships between the Outdoor Education Centres (where Phil works) and the local property owners.”

The National Medal recognises long and diligent service by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations that risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community over a period of at least 15 years.

Scouts Australia sincerely congratulates Phil on this achievement. Phil (centre) is pictured here with Peter Ruddick (left), Innisfail Area Director of the Queensland Rural Fire Service who presented the Medal, and Les Green, First Officer, Tinaroo Rural Fire Brigade.
