With the weather relatively cooler, now’s the perfect time for our Scout Groups north of the Tropic of Capricorn to help Clean Up their communities. The Great Northern Clean Up is being held during August, September and October, with many local councils offering their support for your Clean Up events.
There has never been a better time to stop and have a look around you to find those rubbish hotspots that need attention and register a local site for the 2018 Great Northern Clean Up. Because when the rubbish is gone, nature can carry on.
Clean Up Australia is calling for communities north of the Tropic of Capricorn to register their sites online NOW!
Created in 2009 after feedback that cleaning up in the hot month of March was difficult for communities north of the Tropic of Capricorn, the annual event has helped keep Australia clean. In 2017, 3,401 volunteers picked up a bag, donned a pair of gloves and joined neighbours and friends at 94 registered locations. Together they removed an estimated 207 ute loads of rubbish from parks, roadways, beaches, rivers and town centres, donating 6,750 hours of labour to their community.
Not in Northern Australia? There’s still ways to help to keep your community clean! Maybe you could use the newly released Australian Scout Environment Charter to inspire a local project.
