Scouts | Terrain Continues to Evolve

Last year, Scouts | Terrain launched and revolutionised personal progression tracking and programming for 21st century Scouting.

Last year, Scouts | Terrain launched and revolutionised personal progression tracking and programming for 21st century Scouting. Since its launch, we’ve had thousands of Scouts be empowered to take charge of their journey in Scouting. Each month, 24,000 users log in to update their Scouting journey, and spend approximately 7 minutes 53 seconds per visit – and this keeps growing!

Further development has meant exciting new updates to Scouts | Terrain. The recently released My Logbook feature is consistently one of the most used functions! If you haven’t used Scouts | Terrain recently, log back in to experience the changes and how it will improve the Scouting experience for you and your Unit members.

And There’s More To Come

Since the beginning, the National Executive Committee has been a strong advocate to supporting ongoing maintenance and development of Scouts | Terrain. In consultation with our team of developers at TwoBulls, we have developed a proposed pipeline of improvements that we hope will be rolling out soon. Those things we are considering are:

  • Simplifying event creation to ensure better user experience.
  • Improving the programming journey to improve linkages between Achievement Pathways areas.
  • Tweaking backend connections to address issues with Milestone achievements.
  • In response to user feedback, the ability to sync Scouts | Terrain calendar with external calendar applications.
  • Simplifying communication with parents by creating an exportable and printable report of upcoming events
  • Improved visualisations in unit life
  • Ongoing maintenance to improve speed, performance and response across all devices.

Support Moving Forward

Throughout the development of Scouts | Terrain, we’ve been committed to supporting our members to use this new digital system. Available online are user guides, walkthrough videos, and recorded webinars to ensure our members can confidently navigate the new system.

In addition, the Scouts | Terrain User Community Facebook Group has been an interim solution designed for Scouts around the country to collaborate and provide best practice insight. As Scouts | Terrain is now deeply embedded in what we do, and thanks to our abundance of support resources, this Facebook User Community will shortly be discontinued. Our members feedback, support, and constructive contributions has helped shaped the journey of Scouts | Terrain into the successful progression and programming tool being used in Scout Groups around the country.

The Scouts | Terrain Help Desk remains the most efficient method to get help and support. Our small support team has responded to hundreds of support requests. Responding to these tasks can take some considerable time and are prioritised based on user impact.

For more personalised service and assistance, a network of contacts exists across Australia with Scouts in each Branch trained in using Scouts | Terrain. These Scouts provide non-technical assistance in using Scouts | Terrain including guidance with adopting it for use in your Unit. Reach out to your local contact through pr.scouts.com.au.

As the primary programming and achievement tracking mechanism for the youth program, Scouts | Terrain, in conjunction with the Program Resources website (pr.scouts.com.au), continues to be the source of truth for all youth program information. In line with our wider digital strategy, other programs including Scout Central are being progressively scaled back, and no further updates are anticipated to occur to this website.
