Chair of Strategic Plan Implementation Subcommittee

Scouts Australia has a new strategic plan running for three years until November 2026. We are seeking a someone to lead a Strategic Plan Implementation Subcommittee under our national board, the National Executive Committee (NEC). The person in this role will work closely with the Chief Commissioner and Chair of the NEC to implement this important plan.

The strategic plan sets five “key moves” (our high-level priorities) and the specific actions we will take to achieve them. It is the cornerstone of our resource allocation and decision-making. It is the first item on every agenda for the NEC.

Terms- Three years

Duties:

  • work closely with the Chief Commissioner and National Executive Committee Chair.
  • coordinate the activities of five Key Move Managers who are collectively managing the delivery of 50 priorities and actions.
  • establish systems to measure and track progress against the strategic plan.
  • Provide regular status reports, and attend meetings of the National Executive Committee (the board of Scouts Australia) to discuss progress against the plan.
  • identify key strategic trade-offs and decisions that senior organisational leaders must make in order to effectively achieve the plan’s goals.
  • engage with senior members of the National Team and the eight state and territory branches to support their implementation of strategic priorities, and ensure alignment across the organisation.

 Who we are looking for:

This role requires organisational skills, creativity, and above all: a pragmatic outcomes-focused approach. This would suit someone who has previously managed organisational KPIs/OKRs, supported board-level management and decision-making, or who has worked with large organisations on planning and implementation.

Experience as a senior leader in scouting is not required, but it is essential that you have both:

  • the ability to navigate and consult with Scouts Australia’s complex set of stakeholders, and
  • an understanding of the strategic environment of Scouts Australia and the eight branches

Reporting:

  • the Strategic Plan Development Lead will report to the NEC through the NEC Chair, in close liaison with the Chief Commissioner of Australia.

We are seeking expressions of interest in this role. If you would like to submit an expression of interest (ideally 1-2 pages outlining your background, skills, and experience in supporting organisational strategic management), please write to the National Executive Assistant (sarah.eldridge@scouts.com.au) by 22 April 2024.
