National Rover Council Adviser
Do you have an understanding of the Rover Council and our Youth Program? We are looking for a National Rover Council Adviser, who can connect and communication effectively with young people of Rover Scout Age and ready to make a lasting impact on the future of Rover Scouts!
About the role
- Support the National Rover Council (NRC) Executive to set, achieve and evaluate its own goals in line with requirements of the NRC, National Operations Committee, and Branch Rover Councils.
- Support the NRC to develop and implement a strategic vision.
- Work with the NRC Executive to provide ‘big picture’ guidance to assist with the smooth running of the Council and the development of the Rover Scout section.
- Support the transition between NRC Executives during handover and other support (as required) to ensure continuity of roles and responsibilities of the Executive.
- Provide Council members with inductions and training where required.
- Facilitate meetings of the Branch Rover Advisors and Commissioners to build a strong network of Advisors that support the section nationally.
This is an exciting and challenging role for someone who wishes to foster the development of the Rover Scout section, through advising and supporting members of the pinnacle representative body of Australian Rover Scouts: the National Rover Council. The National Rover Council Rover Advisor will assist the NRC to ensure that all aspects of internally and externally conducted audits are successfully implemented. This is a creative and open-ended position, which will rely on your great organisation, communication, and social skills.
Further Details
- It will involve attending occasional weekend meetings interstate, including:
- NRC conference in January/February each year
- NRC Executive hand-over meeting, generally a few weeks after the NRC conference
- Other meetings when required
- Importantly, it was also involve attending all online NRC meetings (every 2-3 months) and online meetings of the NRC Executive
- The position will be for three (3) years.
- A large amount of work will be completed online and through social networking mediums.
- Applicants must have attained their 27th birthday.
Position Requirements
To achieve success the applicant will have the following skills:
- A commitment to the Purpose and Principles of Scouting;
- Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills within a volunteer organisation;
- The ability to work with young adults to achieve a desired result;
- Well-developed organisational and administrative skills;
- A well-developed understanding of the role of an advisor and the ability to mentor others;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team to meet strategic goals and achieve tasks within set timeframes;
- Knowledge of the Rover Scout section and its policies and procedures;
- Hold a relevant Wood Badge (or a willingness to obtain one within two years of appointment).
Successful Applicant
The successful applicant would begin a handover period in January 2025 and officially assume the role on 29 March 2025. As part of the handover process, the successful applicant will be expected to attend the NRC Conference on 14 – 16 February, 2025 in Adelaide.
