Adventurers supported this year include:

  • 3 Cub Scouts supported to take Project Patrols, with adult Leader support to Uluru, the beach and up into the mountains
  • 4 Scout Patrol Leaders plan to introduce their Patrols to hiking the Overland Track and Freycinet in Tasmania and Loch Luna wetlands in South Australia while another Scout was funded to improve his outdoor skills by attending the summer school early in 2026
  • 8 adventures overseas were supported to New Zealand, Timor L’Este, Japan, Kokodo Trail in New Guinea, Patagonia and Everest Base Camp.
  • 14 different adventures in Australia were supported to improve outdoor adventure adventure skill progressions including alpine skills in the Snowy Mountains and Cradle Mountain; bushwalking in K’gaire, Kangaroo island and Three Capes;  canoeing and paddling on the Menindee Lakes and aquatic skills at Karratha in Western Australia. Two Scouts were funded to do further training- one in alpine skill areas and another in horse-riding.
  • Rover Scouts showed the diversity of their program with 13 adventures being supported.  While LTAF does not support nationally arranged events, it has assisted with adventures held in other countries after these organised events are held.  Such adventures included training in Mountaineering Rescue in Austria, mountaineering in Scotland, New Zealand and Tanzania.  An urban adventurous journey in Japan has also been supported.  Other adventures within Australia including learning sailing skills in the Whitsundays and four-wheel driving to Cape York.

Since it started in 2021, LTAF has supported young Leaders to PLAN> Do> Review 150 adventures and training which have included more than 1000 youth members.  If you would like more information check here for more details.

LTAF is only possible because of the generous donation provided by Dick and Pip Smith to enable Scouts to experience even more adventurous journeys than they might be able to do, and to learn first- hand about managing risks safely and acquiring new Leadership skills.  The next LTAF application round closes on 15 January 2026.
